  1. ani difranco:
Evidence that music is modern poetry. Ani defines indie by not only recording on her own, but doing all her own PR and merchandising as well, re-employing people from her home town left in the lurch after the steel plant closed. Luv her for the folk-rock-funk-punk sound, *really* luv her for the feminist, GBLT friendly, anti-racism, anti-globalization, eco-positive lyrics.
  2. clex:
Ah Clark with your nerdy, self-conscious, proto-gay, do-gooding, organically grown, layered-flannel charm.

Ah Lex with your shockingly sexy baldness, your emotional yo-yo family issues, your unbelievably relentless determination to love Clark no matter how many times you betray each other, and your hot little glasses.
  3. criminology:
Even though it freaked me the hell out, I wanted to be Clarice Starling from "Silence of the Lambs." Took some criminology classes and decided I couldn't handle interacting with criminals on a daily basis, but I'm still very interested in formal and informal systems of criminalization, punishment, and social control. Deviance, whether legally criminal or interpersonally regulated, ranks right up there as the largest issue in all my work. "Thank you, Claaaarisssssse"
  4. fall:
Right now I'm listening to the sound of wind through dry leaves and it is one of the best sounds ever. There's so much I love about fall - cider, sweaters, being outside without bugs after the first frost, Halloween, the smell of change, picking apples and pumpkins, and the rattle of nature.
  5. feminism:
As Ani says, coolest F-word ever. I read something really horrifying yesterday - more and more women attending *Ivy League schools* (including those going for advanced degrees like at Yale Law School!) intend to become stay at home moms. Permanently. They do not see themselves as having any kind of role in the public sphere. Feminism isn't needed anymore? We haven't even begun.
  6. glasgow:
I lived in Glasgow from January through June of 2000 and just went back this July for a couple days. Living there was both wonderful and miserable. What I miss most are the people I knew there, but I also miss walking everywhere, eating fresh fruit and veg for every meal (because Roots and Fruits gave a student discount), a wonderful train system, pub food, and the freedom of endless possibility.
  7. hermione:
'Cause I was Hermione. Only instead of frizzy brown hair I had tangled hair. And I couldn't do magic, but otherwise, pretty much me.
  8. post-structuralism:
My fav theory. Without getting to far into it, genealogical method which sets everything on a level playing field as equally constructed and postulates no outside, pure position of authenticity.
  9. slash:
On the more obvious level, amateur fan writing featuring professionally published characters of the same gender in non-canonical romantic and/or erotic relationships. What this means to me is a whole new set of artistic, aesthetic, and socio-political interpersonal forms, genres, and situations. And then there's the pretty :)
  10. wine:
I love that each bottle is just a little different, so some are light and flirty, others are richly sensuous. I love earthy, round wines that taste faintly of blackberry, and crisp, sparkly wines that sing with honey.
